Specializing in scientific solutions and publication strategy, Tom leads several medical publications teams that serve UBC-Envision Group clients. With more than 12 years of experience in medical writing and publications, his expertise includes literature assessment and gap analysis, development of strategic and tactical plans for medical publications, implementation and coordination of plan delivery, and application of best practices and ethical guidelines for reporting clinical data through investigator- and author-directed, peer-reviewed publications.
Tom is a fellow of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA). Over the years, he has been involved in several educational and professional initiatives within that organization, including having served as its President from 2009-2010. He is also an active member of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP), having led webinars and workshops on topics related to medical publications ethics and best practices. Overall, Tom has led more than 100 workshops and lectures on topics ranging from advanced database searching to medical publications ethics to clinical trial design principles and research terminology.
Before joining Envision in 2006, Tom worked in the nonprofit sector and the information services industry including his roles as Executive Director and Senior Editor at The Center for AIDS Information and Advocacy in Houston and as Publications Specialist with the Houston Academy of Medicine–Texas Medical Center Library. Tom is certified as an Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS) and a Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP). He holds a masters degree in biomedical sciences (neuroscience) from the University of Texas–Houston Health Science Center.
